The Division of Medical Ethics aims to create standards that ensure the ethical care of patients and research subjects. The division offers an ethics consultation service to help patients and physicians make difficult decisions about end-of-life care, determination of capacity and futility disputes. The division teaches medical ethics to faculty, students and trainees through several courses and seminars, and offers medical ethics resources to the entire medical community. Researchers investigate topics in the ethical practice of medicine, including patients’ needs for autonomy and support.
