The Ansary Stem Cell Institute explores how scientists and clinicians might heal damaged tissue and organs with regenerated or engineered human stem cells—the building block cells that make up many tissues and organs. Some of the institute’s most successful research has focused on creating individualized blood cells that could improve treatment for blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, while offering insights on the mechanisms that drive these diseases. WCM is also involved in other regenerative stem cell-based research for degenerative disorders of the brain, heart, lungs and pancreas, as well as wound-healing efforts in the case of severe burns. The institute offers a stem cell and regenerative medicine Area of Concentration for medical students.
