The Trauma, Burns, Acute and Critical Care Surgery Division delivers compassionate and expert surgical care to critically-ill patients. The division operates a Level 1 Trauma Center and a specialized Burn Center, which includes a hyperbaric oxygen chamber for wound healing, a hydrotherapy room for daily washing and a children’s playroom. Both are staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprised of trauma and acute care surgeons, burn specialists, rehabilitation professionals, psychologists and social workers, who ensure that patients receive support throughout their hospitalization and recovery process. The team performs emergency procedures on people with traumatic injuries that can be caused by serious falls, gunshot wounds and second or third degree burns. Research efforts include the study of burn injury and biological skin substitutes and the epidemiology of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.
