Across every arm of Weill Cornell Medicine, our talented faculty, staff and students are exploring daily how to best integrate artificial intelligence with our missions. That effort goes both ways: how we bring the newest technology to our work, and how we bring our expertise to influence the future of this rapidly growing field.
With so much happening, our community will benefit from a way to track these efforts: new accomplishments, opportunities to learn from experts in the field, and resources available to our community. To best harness this, I’m pleased to announce the launch of AI to Advance Medicine to encompass our advancements in combining AI and academic medicine.

Co-led by Dr. Fei Wang, Associate Dean of AI & Data Science, and Vinay I. Varughese, our Chief Information Officer, AI to Advance Medicine will help us collectively think about the application of AI to medicine holistically at WCM. This program is deeply integrated with the Cornell AI Initiative that launched in 2021 to advance Cornell’s reputation as a leader in AI research.
Launching under our new program is a Dean’s Lecture Series, allowing our community to learn from the brightest minds in AI, both internally and externally. Our inaugural AI to Advance Medicine Dean’s Lecture will take place on Monday, February 23 at noon in Uris Auditorium and on Zoom, where Dr. Peter J Embí from Vanderbilt University Medical Center will present his pioneering work on AI-integrated learning health systems. Please register today to join us in person or virtually – I hope to see you there.
Stay tuned for more components of this program launching throughout 2026, including a grant program to lower barriers for junior investigators. For more on this exciting new initiative, please visit the newly launched AI to Advance Medicine website at ai.weill.cornell.edu.
Sincerely,
