Film Screening - The 11th Hour

The student green initiative held its first documentary screening of The 11th Hour narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio.  Students in attendance were treated to some local NY State apples and organic hummus.  Additionally, green tote bags were given out as prizes to all attendees.

The film certainly provided a sense of urgency regarding many of the environmental issues the world currently faces and served as a loud call to action. However, its interpretation of the causes of pollution, deforestation, and global warming were somewhat simplistic. While the films suggested solutions included large scale green design, individual responsibilities were lacking. And that’s where the Student Green Initiative will attempt to pick up the slack, helping to find the smaller scale ways that students can help reduce the institution’s impact.
