The Neurosurgical Anesthesiology Division coordinates care with neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neurophysiologists and nurses for surgeries and procedures that involve the brain or spine. Division physicians provide general anesthesia for traditional brain tumor resections, and offer sedation and pain relief protocols for patients who must remain awake during portions of their brain surgery. The division cares for patients undergoing spine surgeries, from the excision of a herniated disk to the placement of spinal cord stimulators, and provides mild to deep sedation for patients with movement disorders that must have deep brain stimulators placed.
