Shari Lusskin, MD

Shari I. Lusskin, MD is the first Director of Reproductive Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine where she holds a joint appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is the director and co-founder (in 2001) of The Annual NYU Reproductive Psychiatry Conference.

Dr. Lusskin is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and an attending physician at New York University Medical Center where she also maintains a private practice. She is a member of the Advisory Board for Postpartum Support International (www.postpartum.net).

The co-author of the Reproductive Psychiatry sections of Ob/Gyn UpToDate, an on-line and CD-ROM textbook (www.uptodate.com), Dr. Lusskin also contributed to the “Manual of Psychiatric Care for the Medically Ill,” published by the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Lusskin is a member of the Expert Panel of the National Toxicology Program Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction (CERHR) which recently reviewed the use of stimulants in pregnancy (http://cerhr.niehs.nih.gov). She has served as an ad hoc reviewer for the American Journal of Psychiatry, the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, the Archives of Women’s Mental Health, and Biological Psychiatry.

Dr. Lusskin has lectured extensively in the US and Canada, as well as in Europe and India, speaking both to medical and general audiences as part of her effort to increase awareness of the psychiatric needs of women.

Dr. Lusskin has appeared on many local and national news programs including CNN, The Today Show, The O’Reilly Factor, and The Infinite Mind on National Public Radio. She has also been featured in many magazine and internet articles on topics in women’s mental health.
