Biography
Samuel H. Selesnick, M.D., F.A.C.S. is Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology and Professor ofOtolaryngology in Neurological Surgery at the Weill Cornell Medical College, and is a member of the Department of NeurologicalSurgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Selesnick has been elected President of the American NeurotologySociety, the largest specialty organization of neurotologists - skull base surgeons in the United States. Neurotology encompasseslateral skull base surgery for tumorssuch as vestibular schwanommas (acoustic neuromas), meningiomas,epidermoid tumors and glomus tumors, as well as the surgical and medical treatment for patients suffering from complex ear-relatedproblems such as hearing loss, otosclerosis, cholesteatoma and facial nerve tumors. Dr. Selesnick has lectured on neurotologicand ear related topics in the United States, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Austria, Denmark, Spain, Australia, Israel,the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India, the Ukraine, Canada and Mexico. Dr. Selesnick has received The Certificate of Honorbestowed by The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and has been named one of the best doctors in hisfield by 'New York Magazine' and other lay publications. Dr. Selesnick sits on the editorial board of the journal 'Otologyand Neurotology' and has served as guest editor of 'The Otolaryngologic Clinics of North America'. Dr. Selesnick has servedon the Executive Council of The American Neurotology Society, and has served on or chaired numerous committees for the AmericanAcademy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, The American Otological Society, The Triological Society, The American Collegeof Surgeons and other medical societies. Dr. Selesnick has researched topics in neurotology - skull base surgery and otology,and has published extensively in peer reviewed journals. At New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center,Dr. Selesnick has pioneered the use of lasers for the treatment of hearing loss in otosclerosis, and for the treatment of cholesteatoma, duringmastoidectomy surgery. He has developed new procedures in tympanoplasty to repair tympanic membrane perforation. Dr. Selesnick received a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan Universityand graduated from the New York University School of Medicine. He completed his training in Otolaryngology at The ManhattanEye, Ear, and Throat Hospital - Cornell Residency Program and went on to advanced Fellowship training in Otology, Neurotology,and Skull Base Surgery at The University of California, San Francisco.
