Global Health

I am the Associate Dean with responsibility for the Office of Global Health Education and the Office of Affiliations at Weill Cornell Medical College.  In this capacity, I oversee the international electives for Weill Cornell medical students and the clinical electives for international medical students visiting Weill Cornell.

In particular, I have an interest in comparative international health systems, with a focus on Europe and China. I helped develop the United States-European Union Medical Education Exchange (US-EU MEE), in which students from King’s College, London; University of Copenhagen, Denmark; and Ludwig Maxmillians University in Munich, Germany come to Weill Cornell to examine the U.S. health care delivery system through the eyes of a patient with a chronic disease.  Weill Cornell sends 4th year students to London, Copenhagen and Munich to study health care delivery system in the UK, Denmark and Germany.  Students are expected to write a report on their observations.

In addition, I have recently been the Co-Convener of a conference in Beijing, China, entitled “East Meets West in Medical Education.”  I have facilitated Weill Cornell student rotations in China.

My global health interests extend to addressing domestic health inequities in terms of access to health care and the delivery of services through advocacy for a single-payer National Health Insurance Program for the United States.  I am currently President of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP).

I would be happy to guide students in their international elective decision making process. I have contacts at the World Health Organization, Doctors for Global Health, MSF, IRC, GHEC and the International Health Section of APHA.
