Research Overview
Nora Weiduschat joined Weill Cornell Medical College as an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience in Radiology in May 2010. Her main interests lie in the field of design of patient-oriented research in neurology and the implementation of novel tools and techniques for diagnosis and therapy monitoring during clinical trials. As a research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Neurological Science in Cologne, Germany, she investigated repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as a complementary treatment of post-stroke aphasia. During this randomized controlled trial, functional positron emission tomography was used as a means to quantify the effects of rTMS on language-related cortical activation patterns. In the Laboratory for Advanced MR Spectroscopy Research led by Dr. Dikoma C. Shungu, her current research focuses on magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in neurological disease, with special emphasis on mitochondrial dysfunction in movement disorders, motoneuron diseases and mitochondrial encephalopathies. Current research projects include collaborations with Drs. Claire Henchcliffe, Hiroshi Mitsumoto (Columbia University) and Darryl de Vivo (Columbia University).
