Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
1. A multidisciplinary approach to the evaluation and management of complicated pneumonias in children (protocol in submission). A dual center feasiblity study to evaluate implementation of a standard treatment algorithm utilizing early VATS in the management of complicated parapneumonic effusion. This is the initial phase of a multicenter trial comparing morbidity, length of hospital stay and cost of two commonly used treatment strategies. 2. Pain and sedation in the critically ill pediatric patient. Project in initial stages comparing dexmetetomidine to propofol for post-operative intubated pediatric patients with dysautonomia after spinal fusion.
