Dr. Vahdat graduated from Barnard College/ Columbia University in 1982. She then graduated from Mt.Sinai Medical School and completed her fellowship training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. She was on faculty at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeon from 1994 until 2002 where her focus was the development and conduct of Phase I/II trials of new therapy modalities in women with high risk and recurrent breast cancer. She was recruited to Weill Cornell Medical College in 2002 to develop and solidify the breast cancer Program. Her major research interests include strategies to understand and prevent metastases, evaluation of new therapies and approaches to controlling breast cancer. She also has an interest in understanding side effects of certain drugs, in particular peripheral neuropathy. She is on the Executive Board of Cancer Care and was awarded their "Physician of the Year award in 2002 and the Humanitarian Award by Cancer Care of Connecticut in 2007 for her volunteer work with the organization.
