Dr. Sippel pursued several years of vision-related laboratory investigation as a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in the area of the molecular genetics of ocular disease. She was also a Research Fellow at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston, Massachusetts where she pursued research in the area of corneal wound healing Her current research interests lie in the development of an artificial cornea (keratoprosthesis), as well is in the in the area of ocular surface disorders (such as dry eye, Sjogrens syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
