Editor, Approach to the Psychiatric Patient, APPI Press, 2008. This book is a broad introduction to the complexity of psychiatry. Each of its 10 chapters focuses on a single patient, and each chapter consists of about 10 short essays that discuss an aspect of the patient. All of the over 100 authors are affiliated with either Weill Cornell or Columbia's medical schools. In this book, Dr. Barnhill wrote or co-wrote sections on the doctor-patient relationship, countertransference, hospital psychodynamics, the emergency evaluation, delirium, capacity, and consultation-liaison psychiatry. Associate Editor, Psychiatry In-Review Study Guide, Education Testing and Assessment Services. Since 2006, it has been published annually and distributed to all graduating psychiatry residents in the country. In this book, Dr. Barnhill authored or co-authored sections on somatoform disorders, delirium, and consultation-liaison psychiatry.
Co-authored chapters in The Psychiatric Interview in Clinical Practice, APPI Press, 2006, which was written by MacKinnon, Michels, and Buckley. Chapters that he helped write include The Hospitalized Patient; The Cognitively Impaired Patient; and The Psychosomatic Patient.
