Global Health
My international work began in Medical School when I completed a project on HIV/TB prevalence rates in the Republic of Georgia. Since then, I have had numerous international research and volunteer experiences in Ghana, Haiti, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Most recently, I have developed ongoing projects in India and Uganda.
In 2005, I began working to develop an endocrinology project in Uganda. This research and teaching project, which is affiliated with the Makerere University located in Kampala, aims to help formalize an endocrinology training program. As part of this project, I began working with Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, India in 2008. Additionally, in Vellore I also started a glucose monitoring project in coordination with outside faculty. At present, the project largely focuses on providing needy Indian Type 1 diabetic patients with necessary resources, such as glucose testing supplies.
Both of these projects have been completed through collaboration with faculty at other institutions. Future collaboration with Cornell faculty is anticipated.
Students passionate about endocrinology and global health are encouraged to participate in these projects. Students are also welcome to contact me regarding global health electives in general. In addition to the organizations and countries listed above, I also have contacts at Health Volunteers Oversees (HVO).
