In 1960 Dr. Strain attended the Institute for Nutrition in Central American and Panama course for Public Health Physicians with Dr. Nevin Scrimshaw. Although she was not a medical doctor she had compeleted her Master's in Public Health Nutrition and was in Medical School at that time. With that inspiration she visited both David Picou in Jamacia and Salvador Zubiran in Mexico regarding her studies in protein malnutrition. Since the 1970s with a focus on obesity and its management she has lectured in 20 countries and consulted in many more during foreign travels.
