Research Overview
Dr. Edyta Pirog is pursuing research in the field of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections and pathobiology of HPV-related lesions of the lower female and male anogenital tract. Her studies are focused on detection and genotyping of HPV in various histologic subtypes of cervical, vulvar and penile carcinoma, as well as in benign lesions of the anogenital tract. Dr. Pirog is also involved in research on advancement of cervical cancer screening techniques such as HPV testing of the cervical smears. In addition Dr. Pirog is pursuing studies of novel diagnostic biomarkers of HPV-related lesions. Dr. Edyta Pirog is a coauthor of seminal papers on pathogenesis of cervical, vulvar and penile cancer.
