Global Health
As a member of the Division of Infectious Diseases and a full time clinician at the Center for Special Studies, the HIV clinic of New York Presbyterian Hospital, I have been involved in the care and study of HIV infection for over a decade.
I am the Medical Director of The Starfish Project, a training and technical assistance initiative based at the Center for Special Studies. Starfish has provided training and technical assistance to academic-based HIV care programs in Nigeria, Africa. Starfish has operated in Nigeria for several years. Cornell medical students and New York Presbyterian Hospital Medicine Residents and Infectious Diseases Fellows have been involved with Starfish, some who have traveled to Nigeria with the project.
Weill Cornell's evolving affiliation with the Bugando Medical Center in Mwanza, Tanzania has opened a new chapter for Starfish, and the project is now developing a teaching and training collaboration at Bugando. We expect to have opportunities for students to be involved with these efforts in the near future.
