Office of Health Physics
Health physics is the profession devoted to protecting people and their environment from potential radiation hazards. Medical health physicists work to ensure proper and safe conditions for patients, visitors, and staff by monitoring radiation procedures and exposures and by assuring that the medical facility is in compliance with city, state, and federal radiation safety regulations.
The health physicist manages these duties through direct involvement in the clinical application of radioactive materials and x-rays; by teaching courses and conducting in-service training; and by reviewing research projects involving radiation work in various scientific disciplines.
