The Division of Outcomes and Effectiveness Research studies the U.S. healthcare system and makes important discoveries and recommendations for improvement. Among recent topics of investigation are physician costs in interacting with health plans and payers, physician practice organization and processes to improve medical care and control costs, and the role of accountable care organizations and medical homes in health system reform. The Division also focusses on comparative effectiveness research; outcomes and cost-effectiveness of medical and orthopedic devices; and logistics planning for disease and disaster preparedness.
