Medical Ethics

Educational Initiatives

Medical ethics education is integral to the mission of the Division, and all faculty members are involved in our educational initiatives. Joseph J. Fins, MD, FACP; Heather X. Cereste, MD, MPH; Inmaculada de Melo-Martín, PhD, MS; and Cathleen A. Acres, RN, MA; are responsible for teaching the medical ethics components of the Medicine, Patients and Society (MPS) courses, which are required for all medical students at Weill Cornell Medical College. The Division is regularly represented by Dr. Fins at morning report to discuss ethical issues that arise on the Medicine Service.

Dr. Inmaculada de Melo Martín interviews Dr. Jessica Davis, Pediatrician and Clinical Geneticist, on ethical issues in genetic medicine in Weill Cornell's MPS II course.
The Division's research seminars are available to faculty, students and trainees. Additional educational programs include a fellowship conducted with the Hospital for Special Surgery in Medical Ethics and Disability, and the Faculty Associates Program, which provided training and research opportunities in ethics to faculty from other departments in the Medical College. Division faculty member Pablo Rodriguez del Pozo, M.D., J.D., Ph.D., is based at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, where he teaches in the pre-medical and medical school curriculum in conjunction with his colleagues in New York City.
