Welcome New Staff

Jamie Lo, MA, is a new Grants Administrator for the Department. Ms. Lo is managing grants for Drs. Alvin Mushlin, Nathaniel Hupert, Art Sedrakyan, and Joseph Fins. Before joining Weill Cornell Medical College, Ms. Lo managed projects and provided technical expertise and training in her positions as an Analyst for the City of Newburgh, NY, as a Planner for the Sullivan County Planning & Community Development, and as a Geographic Information Systems Specialist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. She has also worked as a Technology Infrastructure Services Database Administrator for Credit Suisse First Boston, and as a Treasurer Assistant for Euro RSCG Worldwide, Inc. Ms. Lo holds an MA in Environmental Studies from NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education & Human Development, and a BS in Finance & Marketing from NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

Jayme Mendelsohn, MPH, is a Research Coordinator in the Division of Outcomes and Effectiveness Research. Ms. Mendelsohn graduated this year from Stony Brook University with a Master of Public Health: Community Health. She previously graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Linguistic Anthropology and Health: Science, Society and Policy from Brandeis University, where she was a Presidential Scholar and on the Dean's List. While at Stony Brook, she worked in the Department of Preventive Medicine as a Senior Research Assistant on a textbook chapter on the epidemiology of refractive error and as an Assistant Study Coordinator for the Diabetes and Periodontal Therapy Trial. She was also a Senior Research Assistant at the University's Counseling and Psychological Services. While an undergraduate student, she was an intern at Tuft's University School of Dental Medicine Department of Public Health and Community Services. She also spent a semester in Australia in a Natural and Cultural Ecology Program, where she conducted ecological studies in northern Queensland and studied language and culture with Aboriginal elders.

Shangaza Walcott is the Financial Coordinator for the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. Mr. Walcott has served as a budget analyst for Camba Inc. in Brooklyn, NY, and as a budget analyst and fiscal analyst for the Community Healthcare Network in New York City. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a major in Economics and a minor in Psychology, from CUNY Baruch College. He is a member of the Finance and Economics Society.

Lucas Romero has joined the Department as an Assistant Research Coordinator in the Division of Outcomes and Effectiveness Research. Mr. Romero attended Universidad Zamorano (Pan-American Agricultural University) in Zamorano, Honduras, where he earned a degree in Agriculture Engineering, with Honors, and was a USAID Scholarship Recipient. Upon graduating he became a Program Coordinator at Fundación Banhcafé in Tegucigalpa, Honduras where he managed regional development projects. In 2000 he received a scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, Sports, and Culture to study Japanese and work as a Research Assistant in the Food Chemistry Laboratory at Kagoshima University in Kyushu, Japan. From 2001 to 2006 he was a lead English teacher at the American International Brains Academy in Yokkaichi, Japan. He then attended Columbia University in New York, where he was a Rita Gastom Fund Scholarship Recipient and on the Dean's List, and obtained a BA in Biology in 2008. From 2008-2009 he was a Research Consultant at the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition in New York. In 2009 he became a Clinical Research Coordinator at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He is currently an MPA candidate with a focus in Health Policy at CUNY Baruch College.
