Although we are happy to have moved to our spacious new quarters, many faculty and staff have a long history in the Kips Bay Building and will miss it. The building was originally the site of the Kips Bay-Yorkville Health and Teaching Center, a cooperative program between the New York City Department of Health and New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center. It was one of several cooperative programs between the city and medical centers to foster and guide an understanding of public health problems. The Center housed the offices of the Medical College’s Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Read more about the project in an announcement of a luncheon marking the building’s groundbreaking in 1937, including statements from former Mayor Fiorello La Guardia and former Commissioner of Health John L. Rice, MD. The building has now been taken down and will be part of the site of the Medical College’s new research building.
