Smartphones & Personal Digital Assistants (PDA)
Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) address the growing need for instantaneous communication and data access by combining the features of the cell phone, productivity applications such as calendaring and email, and the ability to access the Internet wirelessly. There is no single industry standard PDA device or platform, so understanding the differences in features, level of support, and cost is important.
ITS has developed several support options for WCMC faculty and staff supported PDA devices as outlined in the table below.

1 WCMC email access configured by the Carrier's BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS). Palm devices requires user to purchase Chatteremail to provide email access.
2 WCMC Personal Information Manager (PIM) syncing requires third party software to be purchased by the user. Blackberry users must purchase SyncJe; Windows Mobile and Palm users must purchase Synthesis SyncML. The sync range must not exceed 120 days.
3 WCMC WiFi Access - device must be tagged and supported by ITS to connect to the wireless network. Additional software installation may be required.
What Is Included

For WCMC owned standard devices:
- Basic hardware/software support including installation, configuration, and diagnostic troubleshooting
- Coordination of warranty repair services with vendor
- Diagnostic troubleshooting for use of WCMC synchronization and application services
- Diagnostic troubleshooting for connection to WCMC network
Cost
- One time setup fee of $75
- Annual support fee per PDA device of $150
