Security and Privacy Compliance Training

Security and privacy compliance training provides instruction on how departments can best meet the requirements of state and/or federal regulations (e.g. HIPAA,) that have an IT component to the regulation.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was passed in 1996 to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of health care systems by standardizing the interchange of electronic data for specified administrative and financial transactions. HIPAA also requires healthcare providers to protect the confidentiality and integrity of the "individually identifiable health information" that they maintain. To achieve this, HIPAA contains security and privacy regulations (known respectively as The Security Rule and The Privacy Rule). To ensure that provider employees understand what they must do, HIPAA mandates training for all members of WCMC's workforce on both The Security Rule and The Privacy Rule.

ITS, in conjunction with the WCMC Privacy Office, has established a site where workforce members can go to take the training online. For more information, please visit the WCMC HIPAA Intranet site.
