Using Webmail
Introduction
In March 2009, ITS launched a major revision to the interface for the Weill Cornell Medical College/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital webmail system. This guide describes how to enter the webmail system, some of the key new features, and how to access many of the settings available within the system.
Information is also available for the previous version of webmail, referred to in this document as the "legacy version".
Logging Into Webmail
To access the webmail system, visit email.med.cornell.edu from any computer. You do not have to be on the Weill Cornell/NewYork Presbyterian network to access webmail.
When the welcome page loads, enter your CWID and password, and then click "Sign In".
Key New Features
Some of the new features of the March 2009 webmail system include:
- Email now displays in a three pane view, similar to most desktop email clients.
- You have easier access to your IMAP-based mail folders.
- A Search feature is readily accessible from all mailbox views.
- A tabbed interface allows you to compose multiple email messages while viewing your mailboxes.
- You no longer have to disable your popup blocker in most browsers to compose email.
Folders
In the new webmail system, your IMAP mail folders are located on the left pane of the window. (Previously, they were located in a dropdown menu.) You can right-click within the folder list to create a new folder, delete or rename an existing folder, mark all messages in a folder as read, or view the amount of disk space used by any particular folder.
Address Book
The Address Book has the ability to search the Weill Cornell and NewYork-Presbyterian directories and maintain contacts to assist you in addressing emails quickly.
Important Notice About The Address Book
Please note that the address book in the legacy version of webmail does not sync in any way to the address book in the March 2009 version of webmail. The address book in the legacy version of webmail uses a snapshot of data from Saturday, March 8th 2009.
