Exporting Calendar Entries on Mac OS X
To export your calendar data, you must be using Oracle Calendar 10+. If you do not have the latest client, please download and install it from the Mac OS X Applications downloads page.
- Log into Oracle Calendar Mac OS X desktop client.
- Once logged into Oracle Calendar, click on "File" in the top left-hand corner of your screen. From the drop-down menu, select "Export Data."
- In the Export pop-up window, select "iCalendar file" from the "Export To: options. Click "OK."
- A different Export window will then appear. Specify the range you wish to export under the "Period" section. Click "OK" when done.
- For the "From" date, choose either your WCMC employment start date or 02-01-1991, which is the furthest that Oracle Calendar goes back.
- For the "To" date, enter 6-30-08. During the upgrade, any entries prior to this date will be purged from the Oracle Calendar server.
- Finally, select the file name and destination of where you would like to store the file. Click "Save."
- The export time will vary, depending on the amount of data to be exported. Locate your file to confirm that you have saved it
- To export calendar entries for a resource, repeat step 1 and step 2.
- In the Export windows, please type "res:[name of resource]" under the 'People/Resources' field. Select the resource once it has been added.
- Repeat steps 4 through 6. Note: Please be aware to give the resource backup file a different name when saving so that it does not overwrite your calendar export.
For the July 2010 Oracle calendar maintenance, we strongly recommend the following guidelines for choosing the appropriate "From/To" dates:
Viewing Your Exported File on Mac OS X
- To view the contents of your exported file, you may either import it to another calendar program or view it within a text editor. If you choose to view the file in another calendar program, please contact the ITS Service Desk. To view the file within a text editor, right-click on the file and select "Open With" and then "TextEdit."
- The text editor option will display the exported data as shown below. It is not displayed in the calendar format but the content is searchable and can be extrapolated.
Exporting Calendar Entries on Windows
To export your calendar data, you must be using Oracle Calendar 10+. If you do not have the latest client, please download and install it from the Windows Applications downloads page.
- Log into Oracle Calendar using the Windows desktop client.
- Once logged into Oracle Calendar, click on "File" in the top left-hand corner of either the "In-tray" screen or agenda screen. From the drop-down menu, select "Export Data."
- From the Export Utility window, select "iCalendar File" under the "Type:" options. Click "Continue."
- The Export by Activity date - text file window will then appear. Select the range you wish to export from under "Period" section. For the July 2010 Oracle calendar maintenance, we strongly recommend the following guidelines for choosing the appropriate "From/To" dates:
- For the "From" date, choose either your WCMC employment start date or 02-01-1991, which is the furthest that Oracle Calendar goes back.
- For the "To" date, enter 6-30-08. During the upgrade, any entries prior to this date will be purged from the Oracle Calendar server.
- Select the destination where you would like to store the file. Click on "Browse" and set the name and save location of the file. Click "Save" when done.
- Click "OK" to export the data
- The export time could take several seconds to minutes depending on the amount of data being exported.
- Locate your file to verify that it has been saved.
- To export calendar entries for a resource, repeat step 1 and step 2.
- In the "Export iCalendar File" window, please type "res:[name of resource]" under the 'People/Resources' field. Select the resource.
- Repeat steps 4 through 6. Note: Please be aware to give the resource backup file a different name (e.g. resbackup) when saving so that it does not overwrite your calendar export.
Viewing Your Exported File on Windows
- To view the contents of your exported file, you may either import it to another calendar program or view it within a text editor. If you choose to view the file in another calendar program, please contact the ITS Service Desk. To view the file within a text editor, right-click on the file and select "Open With."
- On the "Windows" pop-up window, click on "Select the program from a list" option.
- In the "Open With" window select the "Notepad" application. Check the option "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" if you wish to double-click the file and have it open immediately in Notepad.
- The text editor option will display the exported data as shown below. It is not displayed in the calendar format but the content is searchable and can be extrapolated.
