Oracle Calendar FAQ
This document responds to the four issues people commonly report when using Oracle Calendar.
Q: I just installed Oracle Calendar, and a message pops up asking me for my off-line password. I can not sign in. What do you recommend?
A: We have found that deleting certain Oracle Calendar-related files solves this problem. Try the procedure outlined here for Windows:
- Go to Start > Search > All Files or Folders
- In the All of part of the file name field, enter xtm*
- In More Advanced Options, make sure the first three boxes (Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders) are checked
- Click on Search and wait for the search to complete
- When the search is complete, a message will appear and tell you there were x number of files found. You will also see the files in the right side Search window
- Delete all of the Xtm files that are displayed on the right side of the Search window
- Next, enter unison.ini in the All of part of the file name field and click Search
- Select and delete this file also. If you don't see these files in your search, unhide the hidden files. Open My Computer, select Tools > Folder Options > View. In the View tab, click the option button Show hidden files and folders. Click OK to accept this change, close the My Computer window and complete the steps above
Delete these files on a Macintosh:
Username > Documents > Oracle Calendar User Data
Username > Library > Preferences > Oracle Calendar Prefs
You should now be able to launch Oracle Calendar, and sign in without any problems.
Q: My department would like to use one account to schedule our meetings. Is this possible?
A: Using one account for all staff members is cumbersome and presents problems when trying to view several meetings that overlap the same time-slot. The Group View and Group Management features in Oracle Calendar provide the best means for viewing and scheduling group agendas. For this reason, we discourage the use of one account for all, and recommend that each staff member obtain their own account.
Q: I am leaving (or have left) the University, and I no longer use my Oracle Calendar account. Can you delete my account?
A: If you delete an Oracle Calendar user's account, all data the individual created are deleted from the system. People who remain active on the system and expect to be able to find old meetings and agendas in the database are unable to do so. Only those accounts with no meetings scheduled in the last three years and no meetings into the future, and no activity (logins) in the past year will be deleted. In preparation for your departure, we recommend that you:
- Modify your access rights so that others are not able to "invite" you to events, and remove any group meetings that you may have created beyond your leave date. You may wish to ask someone else in your office to recreate such meetings under their account. Remove any special viewing privileges you may have been granted
- While still in the Access Rights window, select the Designates tab to remove anyone, who was assigned designate access to your calendar
Note: If you have additional questions about Oracle Calendar, Oracle Calendar has excellent online help located in the Help Menu, and task specific help is available in most dialog boxes.
