Dictation & Transcription (Breitner)

The Breitner transcription service is the Physician Organization (PO) preferred vendor for dictation and transcription services for physicians who are currently not using the EpicCare system or are very accustomed to dictation.

Transcriptions through the Breitner can be done via a telephone, PDA, or Blackberry device. The Blackberry or PDA methods are the most reliable, popular and flexible solutions and require the IQMax license, which is charged annually. The telephone dictation method is the least expensive and is the least reliable. Telephone transcriptions, if not performed in a timely fashion, can occasionally be attached to an incorrect patient visit. This issue can be avoided with web-based dictation because a unique scheduling identifier is attached to the dictation, ensuring that it is sent back to the appropriate patient visit.

Transcriptions are sent electronically to the EpicCare InBasket for EpicCare physicians.

What Is Included

Cost

For all transcription methods, a charge of 13.6¢ per 72 character line is incurred. All other costs are determined by the dictation method chosen.

  • Blackberry Dictation: Web-based dictation utilizing a Blackberry device's web browser. Dictations must be performed from a location with a clear phone signal.

    • Annual charge of $370 for IQMax software license
    • Cost of Blackberry device and data plan for web access
    • One-time initial setup fee of $75 and an annual charge of $150 to maintain support

  • PDA Dictation: Web-based dictation using PDA device. The PDA will be tethered to a workstation and will receive its Internet connectivity via the sync cable.

    • Annual charge of $370 for IQMax software license
    • Cost of $250-$400 for recommended PDA device and appropriate service plan
    • One-time initial setup fee of $75 and an annual charge of $150 to maintain support

  • Telephone: Call in phone number with telephone prompts. This traditional dictation method can be used from any hard line or mobile phone. IQMax software is not required for this method.

    • Cost of hard line or mobile line service
