New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center have partnered with Greenmarket to bring a new farmers market to campus and the Harlem area.
The Fort Washington Greenmarket is located on Fort Washington Avenue between 168th and 169th streets and is now open every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November.
The market will be managed and maintained by Greenmarket, a program of GrowNYC (formerly Council on the Environment of NYC) that works with more than 200 local farmers, fishermen and bakers to sell what they grow, catch and bake themselves. Greenmarket currently operates 50 farmers markets throughout New York City.
In addition to its local fresh food offerings, the farmers market will host cooking demonstrations, nutritional counseling, and health promotion and education events. Hospital and university programs interested in taking part in health promotion activities at the Fort Washington Greenmarket may send their inquiries to the CHALK Center (Choosing Healthy & Active Lifestyles for Kids) at email@example.com.
