Construction Begins on TB Hospital at GHESKIO

May marked the beginning of construction of a new 35-bed tuberculosis hospital at GHESKIO in Port-au-Prince. Made possible by a generous gift from BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), the hospital will treat patients with TB and MDR-TB. The 2010 earthquake destroyed all three major tuberculosis hospitals in Haiti. Since the earthquake, rates of TB among children have increased six-fold.   The new hospital will replace an inpatient tent hospital where GHESKIO currently provides TB diagnosis and treatment to over 1,000 adults and children. Read more about the partnership between BD and GHESKIO in Cornell’s Spring publication of Milestones.
