Congratulations Graduates of Weill Bugando
Weill Bugando held its 4th Graduation Ceremony on November 19, 2011 in Mwanza, Tanzania. The graduating class included 65 MD students, 10 MMED residents, and Bugando’s first PhD candidate. In a country with just 1 physician per 50,000 patients – the lowest ratio of physicians to patients in the world, the large number of graduates is greatly increasing the human health resources available in the Lake Zone of western Tanzania. More locally trained doctors are residing and working in the Lake Zone after graduation – many are going to district regional hospitals and greatly improving local primary health care systems. Of the 2011 MMED graduates, 4 will join the Bugando Medical Center faculty. To learn more about Weill Bugando and Cornell’s programming in Tanzania visit our Tanzanian Initiatives page.
