Alterative Therapies/Support Services

The Urologic Oncology team of physicians has recognized that the health of a patient can go beyond traditional forms of medicine and extends to the mind, body, and soul. Patients have the option of receiving a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach by having the availability of Social Work Services, Psychological Support, Therapeutic Services, and Nutritional Counseling.

Social Work Services
These include:
  • Follow up on any problems identified during sessions
    • access needed entitlements for patients
    • short term counseling for patients and families
    • referral to other disciplines
    • psycho education on illness and treatment
  • Provide Pre-admission and Discharge Planning evaluation and interventions
  • Facilitate Support Groups for patients and families
Therapeutic Services
  • Provide Complementary and Alternatives Therapies that include:
  • Peggy Huddleston's "Prepare for Surgery" Techniques
  • Reiki Therapy
  • Meditation
  • Basic Yoga postures and breathing exercises
  • Provide general Holistic Health Counseling
Nutritional Services

Patients will be screened for nutrition risk by NYPH dietetic interns, who will be trained to do the screen and supervised by a Registered Dietitian

We can assess the patients nutrition status and provide therapy as needed for adequate intake, diet order compliance, and education, with sensitivity to cultural, social and lifestyle factors
