Surplus Chemical Storage

Due to the Fire Department storage limits for use or storage of flammable liquids in laboratories, Principle Investigators and Manager/Supervisors may request temporary storage of excess flammable liquids with EHS. This facility is intended solely for the storage of overstock flammable liquids, not for general reagent storage. Storage of flammable liquids within the EHS storage facility is subject to the following conditions:

  • 4-liter maximum container size.
  • Store volumes of the routinely used flammable liquids that will be utilized within a 6-month timeframe. Chemicals stored longer than 6 months are subject to disposal.
  • Provide EHS with associated MSDS, as needed.
  • Use appropriate equipment when transporting chemicals in the corridor, such as a cart with secondary containment (e.g., 4-walled or tube/bin) or protective bottle carriers.

While EHS is usually available to provide access to access your reagent, EHS cannot guarantee immediate access to the facility. Plan ahead and contact EHS before lab stocks are depleted. You can check your reagent inventory in EHS storage facility by using the ChemTracker. For more information about the facility or to request access, contact EHS at 646-962-7233 or ehs@med.cornell.edu.
