Student Government
Student Overseer

What is the Student Overseer position?

The Student Overseer is the student body representative on the Weill Cornell Board of Overseers. The Student Overseer is given full voting privileges as a member of the Board of Overseers, the ultimate governing body of Weill Cornell. At each full Board of Overseers meeting, the Student Overseer has the privilege of giving a 5-minute presentation to present student concerns and achievements, a privilege not given to every Board member. In addition, the Student Overseer works with other student leaders on campus and participates in MSEC and GSEC as an ex offiicio member.

A Message from the Current Student Overseer, Sophie McKenney
Hello! My name is Sophie, and I am proud to serve as the student representative to the WCMC Board of Overseers. In doing this, I represent the voice of graduate and medical students from our campuses in New York City and Qatar to our College's highest advisory board. As Student Overseer, I help advocate for policies through several different approaches:

  • Communicate a Student perspective to Overseers and Administrators, and in turn help convey institutional policies and decisions to Students

  • Improve student life by empowering student groups and aiding in administrative decisions that impact students' education and environment

  • Engage students across our campuses in New York and Doha while interfacing with Cornell University in Ithaca

Please see the announcement board below for recent news. There are many ways to become involved, and I look forward to supporting new and creative ways to improve our College. Whether you are a student, Overseer, or administrator, if you would like to become more involved in any of these initiatives, please feel free to contact me at asm2008@med.cornell.edu.
