By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

    Knowledge:

  1. K8, K10 Recognize the wide spectrum of anesthesiology, including patient management in the operating room and ICU.

  2. K8, K9 Describe the role of anesthesiology in sedation and pain management.

  3. K8 Explain the principles underlying the practice of airway management.

  4. K8 Describe the principles underlying the practice of fluid management.

  5. K8 Discuss the principles underlying the practice of cardiovascular management.

  6. K8, K10 Summarize the principles underlying the practice of preoperative assessment and post-operative management.

  7. K8, K9, K10 Explain the principles underlying the practice of regional and general anesthesia.

  8. K10 Compare the basic principles of anesthesia across different patient poulations (i.e., obstetric, pediatric, and geriatric).



How Learning Objectives are Assessed
This course uses a variety of methods to assess students throughout the course that include both formative and summative evaluation. Methods for assessing student achievement of course learning objectives include the following: attendance and participation in didactic sessions; completion of OR logs; and a proficiency examination that covers the material and concepts presented in the course. Please refer to the course syllabus for more specific details on grading.
