The Sub-internship in Medicine is a month long rotation that allows the fourth year medical student to take on the role of a medical intern. This integrative course places the sub-intern on a general medicine team to function as an intern for patients hospitalized on the inpatient medical ward. There is close supervision by an attending physician and the student is completely integrated into the team structure. Students on this rotation are exposed to patients with a wide range of medical disease and are expected to become proficient at history taking, the physical exam and the development of a treatment plan. The student takes call with a supervising senior resident and is expected to attend the daily teaching conferences offered to the medical housestaff. The Sub-internship in Medicine is a rigorous rotation that prepares the student for a well rounded career in medicine.
