Chair of Experimental Medicine
Collège de France, Paris, France

presenting the
40 Years with Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID)
Within the past 40 years, thanks to advances in molecular genetics, mutations in nearly 400 genes have been identified as the underlying cause of abnormal immune responses in humans. Identifying these mutations has been a crucial step toward enabling scientists to unscramble the development and regulation of the immune system and to better understand basic mechanisms leading to infectious diseases and autoimmunity.Importantly, these advances have contributed to therapeutic developments, including gene therapy. Dr. Alain Fischer will illustrate key advancements in this field, and the contributions he has made to it over his career.
