Dr. David A. Hamburg discussed the history and recent advances in stopping acts of mass casualties during his keynote address, "Preventing Mass Violence: Some Recent Advances," at the 89th Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Nervous and Mental Disease.The meeting, held Dec. 16 at the Rockefeller University, examined the psychological and neurological aspects of war from a variety of perspectives — from the experience of a Marine colonel during wartime to the exploration into the mind of a terrorist. Dr. Javaid I. Sheikh has been named dean at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), effective Jan. 1, 2010. Dr. Sheikh has served in the capacity of interim dean at WCMC-Q since Jan. 1, 2009. He joined WCMC-Q as vice dean for research in early 2007 from Stanford University School of Medicine, where he was a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. He holds a tenure faculty appointment as professor at WCMC in New York City. The Executive Committees of the Boards of Overseers and Trustees will vote on the appointment at their January meetings.
