Title: A New Device for Measuring Heart Disease Risk in Children

PI: Lisa Hudgins, MD

Institution: Weill Cornell Medical College

IRB#: 0805009818

IRB Expiration Date: 8/21/2012

Study Description: The purpose of this research is to learn more about the blood vessels in children with risk factors that increase the chance of early heart attack and stroke. Children at increased risk of heart attacks and stroke have risk factors that speed the cholesterol build-up in the arteries. We can now measure the health of the arterial blood vessels with a machine that measures changes in blood flow. If this flow is less than normal, damage to the arteries may have begun to develop.

Involvement: Blood draw, Blood pressure measurement, Ultrasound imaging, Physical exam, Questionnaires

Age: 8-21 years

Eligibility: Overweight and normal weight children and young adults

Commitment:1 visit

Compensation: $50 cash reimbursement and Certificate of Completion
