Title: Research on the Effects of Medication on the Menstrual Cycle

PI: Mallay Occhiogrosso, MD

Institution: Weill Cornell Medical College

IRB#: 0310006393

IRB Expiration Date: 8/7/2012

Study Description: The purpose of this study is to determine if different phases of the menstrual cycle affect levels of lithium and sertraline in the blood. Investigators are also hoping to understand how these differences of levels of lithium and sertraline in the blood might affect the symptoms women are experiencing. This research is being done because learning about fluctuations of drug levels in the blood might help clinicians to treat women on these medications more effectively. Currently, there is little known about how the menstrual cycle effects blood levels of psychiatric medications.

Involvement: Blood draw, Interview, Questionnaire

Age: 18-40 years

Eligibility: Women taking either lithium or setraline on a daily basis for at least one week

Commitment: 2 visits lasting 30-60 minutes

Compensation: $100
