A Unique Biomedical and Geographic Complex

The core participating institutions of this East Side biomedical complex of nationally and internationally recognized institutions extends from 65th to 72nd Streets on York Avenue (“The Avenue”) in Manhattan. Within this small geographic area lies a network of renowned institutions dedicated to research, teaching, patient care and community engagement.

Weill Cornell Medical College is part of a complex located on York Avenue from 68th to 71st Streets that includes the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences (WGSMS) and New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) is located on York Avenue from 65th to 68th Streets, and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is located between York Avenue and the East River at 70th Street.

In close proximity on the East Side of Manhattan and providing essential components to complete the mission of diversity and integration are: the Hunter College School of Nursing (HCSON), The Hunter College Center for the Study of Gene Structure and Function/ Research Center for Minority Institutions (RCMI) and the Cornell University Cooperative Extension in New York City (CUCE-NYC), a unique community engagement program with a network extending throughout all boroughs that has been involved with the health concerns of New Yorkers for over fifty years.

Throughout the boroughs of New York City, Weill Cornell-affiliated hospitals located in multi-ethnic, underserved areas and private practitioners affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College have been integrated into the CUCE-NYC enhancing the extensive community outreach and engagement program.
