The purpose of Medical Center Archives is to collect, organize, and preserve the records at the medical center in order to make the records available for research use.
Hours: The normal hours for research at Medical Center Archives are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, by appointment only. All researchers who visit the archives must abide by the Reference Room Rules. (Researchers who are unable to visit the archives in person can request reference services by submitting a Reference Question Form.)
Appointments: The archives is open, by appointment only, to all persons with genuine research inquiries (both students and staff at the medical center and the general public). To make an appointment to visit the archives, please telephone (212) 746-6072 or contact the archives via email.
Restrictions: Most institutional records in the archives are not available for public research until 25 years after their date of creation. Access to patient medical records is limited and is subject to the provisions of the federal government's Privacy Rule that stems from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Directions: Medical Center Archives is located on the 25th floor of the medical center's Baker Tower (Elevator #16). It can best be reached by way of the medical center's 525 East 68th Street main entrance. After presenting ID to the security guard, proceed straight forward to the Information Desk for directions to elevator #16.
