NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council (CAC)

Brief History

The Center Alumni Council (CAC) was established in 1976 to create a collegial association for healthcare professionals at NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center. The objectives of the founding members were to provide services that:

• Support and promote the educational, research and clinical missions of the Medical Center
• Foster close relationships among its members through social events
• Encourage the coming together of current and former faculty and staff members of both the Hospital and the Medical College

Become a member of the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council (CAC)

Membership is open to current and former:

• Physicians who have received at least one year of training at NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center and are graduates of a medical college other than Weill Cornell
• Scientists and healthcare professionals involved in medical training at NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center
• Faculty members of the Weill Cornell Medical College
• Members of NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center's administrative leadership
• Members of the professional staff associated with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital or Weill Cornell Medical College

Currently, annual dues are $65 for regular membership or $15 for new alumni (first three years after completing post graduate education or fellowship).

Dues fees are waived for retired members.

Residents/Housestaff are provided with first year complimentary membership.

Medical Center Circle

The Medical Center Circle is a group of Center Alumni Council members who have made a significant philanthropic commitment to the future of physician training, patient care and medical research at NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Guidelines for Membership

• This donor recognition society is comprised of members of the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council (or donors who are eligible for membership in the Center Alumni Council).
• You become eligible for membership by making a gift or pledge of $25,000 or more (cash or stock) payable over five years; or by making a planned gift of $50,000 or more in the form of an irrevocable bequest, charitable annuity or charitable trust.
• Pledges must be made in support of the "Medical Center" - split equally between the Medical College and the Hospital (or with a minimum of at least $12,500 to both the Hospital and the Medical College).
• Though unrestricted gifts are encouraged, as this ensures that gifts are directed to areas where most needed, if the donor chooses, gifts may be specified and allocated to a specific initiative.
• Prior donor giving may be counted towards a Medical Center Circle pledge as long as it is within a five-year time frame. For example, if a donor made a prior gift in June 2004, the donor will be given until June 2009 to complete the pledge.
• No reallocation of prior gifts will be allowed.
• Since criteria have been amended as of March 2008 to allow a short grace period for incorporating these rules into current recruitment practices, donor giving as of October 2003 (the date first Medical Center Circle gift was made) may be counted towards the total pledge until December 31, 2008.
• Giving to Events may not be counted towards a pledge.
• Soft credit giving may be counted only when the gift fund, charitable trust, or organization is directly connected to the individual. Gifts made via departments or via the institution may not be counted.

Benefits

Along with the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting a very important cause:

• Members will have their name inscribed upon a Medical Center Circle Recognition Wall, located in the "A" corridor which connects the Medical College to the Hospital.
• Members will be honored at a yearly event hosted by Drs. Pardes and Gotto.
• Members will be presented with a Medical Center Circle certificate.
• Members will receive Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Center Alumni Council

Distinguished Achievement Award for Physicians

This award was first presented in 1982 and is currently awarded every two years to a physician who:

• spent at least two years as a house officer or faculty member at the Medical Center
• has developed a distinguished career at another institution and
• is a graduate of a Medical College other than Weill Cornell Medical College

Outstanding Service Award

In 2005 the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council (CAC) introduced this award to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Medical Center through his or her years of service to the institution. This award is presented every two years to an individual who:

• is a current member of the faculty and/or staff at our Medical Center
• has provided service to the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center
• is a CAC member

Distinguished Housestaff Award

This award is presented annually to one member of the housestaff from each department for all-around excellence. Award recipients are selected by Department Chairs and Residency Program Directors.
